What is the Face-off Against Blood Cancer Lacrosse Tournament?
The tournament will be a two-day lacrosse event held at the Blake School. Entrants will include college teams, boys HS, Boys Elite, boys youth, and for the first time in Minnesota, girls HS teams. In 2013 the tournament will be October 5-6. The goal is to provide an excellent lacrosse tournament while raising funds for the HEADstrong Foundation.
Who is running the tournament?
The tournament is a joint effort between coaches at the Blake School and HEADstrong Minnesota. Both Frank Clark, Head Boys coach at the Blake School, and Pat Donaghy, Director of HEADstrong Minnesota, have strong ties to the Philadelphia area where the HEADstrong Foundation is based.
What is the format of the tournament?
The tournament will be a two-day affair. Every team will be guaranteed three games. There will also be championship game at each level.
Will there be any opportunities for coaches?
There will be a coaches clinic Friday evening, October 4th. Specific time and place TBD.
What media coverage will be available?
The tournament has entered into an agreement with LaxxTV to broadcast the tournament and televise many of the games. In addition, the HEADstrong Foundation is a nationally recognized name and their press releases gets picked up throughout many of the major lacrosse news organizations throughout the country.
What is the cost to enter the tournament?
The cost will be $600 per team. There will be additional opportunities for entering teams to purchase, as a team HEADstrong Lacrosse gear, such as socks, chin straps, laces…
Where will proceeds of the tournament go?
The majority of proceeds will go directly to the HEADstrong Foundation. There are no individuals on the tournament committee that will earn any kind of income from this tournament. The HEADstrong Foundation means too much to the Directors Frank Clark and Pat Donaghy to have it any other way.
What is the HEADstrong Foundation?
The mission of the HEADstrong Foundation is to carry on the legacy and vision of HEADstrong founder Nicholas E. Colleluori through advocating, fundraising and supporting those affected by blood cancers and those working towards eliminating it. The HEADstrong Foundation is committed to being a resource for blood cancer patients and their families. Dedicated to assist them navigate the harrowing ordeal of cancer by sharing our experience, lending guidance and providing essential services with emphasis placed on sustaining and improving quality of life during the process.
